A Little Trip North
This last weekend was the long anticipated (for some) arrival of Hot Import Nights is Seattle, WA. The show generally consists of some c class celebrities, models representing different venues, and most importantly the automobiles. I am assuming that most of these shows have a select few cars that follow the show across all it’s destinations. At the same time, locals are also allowed to bring their own set of wheels and for a small fee have them parked for the show as well. I would say over two hundred cars turned out for the event which wasn’t nearly as many as i had expected, but i was relatively satisfied nonetheless. A wide range of cars and motorcycles were showcased ranging from show cars, and time attack, to drift cars and oldies. A personal favorite of mine: The original skyline who’s owner was a quiet (I am assuming) Japanese man and his son.
After arriving in Seattle roughly 3 hours ahead of schedule, we (Tony, Nikita and I) decided to mingle for a while. As it turned out a few friends from our neck of the woods had come out to enjoy the show as well, some even putting their cars for the show. So after a bit of goofing off we headed into the city to see what there was to see and maybe grab some food while we were at it. Nikita, with skateboard in hand, and with tony and I packing similar Nikon cameras, things were bound to get interesting. At first we decided to walk straight into the city with Quest Field at our backs with the original intent of tracking down the street location of the tallest building in Seattle. After about six blocks we noticed the water front and decided to change course. After Tony and Nikita got a bite to eat (Chicago style hot dogs) we headed back to the show. By this time it was around 4:15pm with the doors set to open at 5. A large line had formed and we were tired and thirsty, but we managed to make it through baggage checks and ticket handlers without incident. Inside we were immediately greeted with an R34 skyline GTR with wing doors… off to a bad start. Then after some rummaging around and occasionally losing Tony (he seemed a little bored) we managed to catch some glimpses at some serious time attack vehicles. Evo’s, STI’s, Supras, RX-7’s and even a few NSX’s and Skylines to boot. Though the show did turn out some nice looking exotics as well, not to mention some incredible time attack and drift specimens, it all seemed too short. We were in and out in less then two hours and that was longer then we wanted to stay. The event was supposed to last until midnight but we didn’t see how it could have. With all the models looking identical (plastic and slutty) and the only other event to watch was some break dancers who were rehearsing before their big show (I’m pretty sure they were some team from America’s best dance crew), to be honest it didn’t seem worth the wait. So after finding some posters and other free things, we piled in the car and got comfortable for the 3 1/2 hour drive home.
Although it may sound like the show was a total bore (which most of it was) it still is worth going to again; not because of the lasting impression it left on my mind but because of the time your get to spend with friends, and hopefully making some new ones. So for all of you to see, here are some of the photos i got of walking around Seattle and of the show itself.
Hope you enjoy the pictures (sorry about the poor quality, i need a new camera).
Thanks for reading
